Professor Diane B. Walker

name

Diane B. Walker was born and reared in Rockville Center, Long Island, NY, and now resides in Moscow, Idaho. She is Professor Emerita of Dance at the University of Idaho.

Professor Walker became associated with Africa University through Jubilate!, the Worship Arts Institute of the Pacific Northwest Annual Conference. As a member of the touring choir and as the movement/choreography director, she first visited Africa University in 1992 at its original campus. In 1994, Jubilate! was one of two U.S. choirs invited to perform at the dedication ceremonies for the new university. Professor Walker returned with the choir in 1998 and worked as a volunteer in the office of information and public affairs with its then director, Andra M. Stevens.

In addition, Professor Walker has worked with Patrick Matsikinyeri, the university's first music director, and Tendekai Kuture, the current music director. She maintains her musical connection to Africa University and Zimbabwe by performing in Sesitshaya Marimba, a Zimbabwean marimba band located in Moscow. Tendekai Kuture founded this community band in 2003 when he was pursuing his Masters of Music Education degree at the University of Idaho. The group performs at various festivals in the Northwest and for Africa University fundraising-Sundays at regional churches playing Kwanongoma marimbas built at Kwanongoma College, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

Professor Walker has designated Africa University the sole beneficiary of a policy of life insurance.
