Mr. Stephen E. Drachler and Mrs. Michelle Drachler

Michelle and Stephen Drachler were introduced at a hockey game in Hershey, Pennsylvania, in January 1978, beginning an adventure that led them to Nashville, and to be part of the Africa University family. They live in Harrisburg (PA) with their Shi Tzu rescue buddy, Marley.

Michelle is retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, where she was a division director. After retirement, she served for several years as a non-lawyer administrative law judge in the Department's Bureau of Hearings and Appeals. Michelle earned a bachelor's degree in English Literature from Wilson College (Chambersburg, PA).

Stephen had a career as an award-winning journalist, political spokesperson, church spokesperson at United Methodist Communications in Nashville, and consultant and lobbyist. His consulting work included several projects for Africa University, including co-developing the brand statement, “Africa University. Learning Here. Living Here. Leading Here. Serving God. All the time. Everywhere.” He is a three-time delegate to the General Conference of The United Methodist Church from the Susquehanna Annual Conference.

In their free time, the Drachlers love to travel. They camp, and they have taken several trips to the United Kingdom and Europe, hiking and enjoying river cruises. They are members of Camp Hill United Methodist Church (Camp Hill, PA).

Stephen and Michelle are the proud parents of Stephanie Drachler Evans, a geologist who lives in Mount Wolf, PA, with her husband, Mark.
